MARBLE

WHAT IS MARBLE?

Marble is a metamorphic stone found in montainous regions. It is formed from limestone, superheated to form its unique crystalline structure. Marble surfaces are timeless with their classic beauty and elegance. If you are looking for a surface to sustain through the ages, this natural stone countertop material is perfect for you. Its naturally cool temperature is pleasing for cooking as well as keeping any workspace temperatures controlled.

Marble does have its cons. It is susceptible to staining, scratching and etching. Marble is a natural stone that develops a patina with use. The stone’s chemical makeup, calcium carbonate, makes it particularly sensitive to acidic solutions, which can result in etching. Pros of marble are that it is heat resistant, strong and generally doesn’t chip or dent.

Marble is available in a wide variety of natural colorations. Despite the variety of colors available, white marble is generally the first choice for use as countertops. It can be dressed up with a polished finish, or made more casual with a honed finish.

Due to marble’s porous nature, it needs to be sealed periodically. Keep in mind that even with a sealer, marble will absorb stains over time and develop a patina.
